Directing

Nick McKinless is one of the most innovative Action Directors and Stunt Coordinators in the business.

A talented athlete, he studied and competed in everything from rock climbing to track and field, an array of martial arts and competing at the highest level in strength sports winning multiple national titles.

Nick made the leap to stuntman in the mid-90’s and worked his way up in stoic style from tv movies to hollywood blockbusters in the UK, Australia and worldwide. Priding himself on being an all round stuntman, he can drive, fight, fall, crash and has every major gag in his repertoire.

His resume is a who’s who of the film world having worked with Spielberg, Scott, Copolla, Fiennes, Richie, Greengrass, Wachowski and had on screen fights with Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, Robert Downey Jr., Vin Diesel, Johnny Depp, Jake Gyllenhaal, Benecio Del Toro, Daniel Craig, Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Fassbender and Tom Hardy and he’s been killed more than once by Batman, Harry Potter, James Bond, Tarzan, Robin Hood, The Wolfman as well as Giant Polar Bears, Rhinos, Tigers, Dinosaurs and Minotaurs!

He has fought and been killed in almost every war (on screen) since 1945 and continues stunt work by stunt doubling the likes of Arnold Schwarzenegger. He’s also managed to win 3 SAG (Screen Actors Guild Awards) along the way.

As a stunt coordinator he’s much sought after for his honest, no nonsense approach to the managing and creating of world class stunt work. He works extensively with the director to create the most realistic action in the safest manner using cutting edge equipment and understanding the need to mould visual FX with practical action.

As an action director Nick’s work has only just begun. Beginning with the Mickey Rourke led action film JAVA HEAT, he has gone on to win BEST ACTION SEQUENCE for his 2012 short action film FAITH. The film won awards at ACTION ON FF, BEST SHORTS FF and was showcased at LUCERNE INTERNATIONAL FF in Switzerland.

In demand for high concept commercials and 2nd Unit work he is also currently producing MONSTER MAN with famed Horror FX master MARK SHOSTRUM and developing several projects including BEHIND THE GUN and a feature length version of his award winning short FAITH.

Nick is available for all aspects of the action genre and as a filmmaker specialising in action design from script to screen.
